Fractional CTO & technical advisory

Senior technical leadership, before you can justify a full-time CTO

Senior technical leadership on a part-time basis — the judgment of a CTO for the decisions that matter, without the full-time cost or equity. I plug in where your team is thin and help you make the calls that scaling depends on.

The problem

You're making technology and hiring decisions that will shape the company for years — build vs. buy, what to hire for next, when the architecture needs to change — and you're making them without a seasoned technical partner in the room. A full-time CTO is expensive, hard to hire, and probably premature. But going it alone means learning these lessons the slow, costly way.

What's included

A standing engagement where I act as your senior technical partner: regular working sessions on the decisions in front of you, an outside read on your architecture and team, hiring and leveling guidance, and a direct line when something urgent comes up. We set a cadence that fits your stage — from a few hours a month to a weekly rhythm — and adjust as the company changes.

Who it's for

Seed to Series B founders — often non-technical or newly-technical — who have real customers and real code but a thin or missing technical leadership layer, and want experienced judgment on tap rather than a full-time hire.

Who it's not for

Companies that already have strong in-house technical leadership and need hands-on-keyboard delivery, or teams looking to outsource engineering execution wholesale. I advise and lead; I don't replace your team.

Frequently asked questions

How much time does a fractional CTO engagement take each month?

It flexes with your stage — anywhere from a few hours a month for periodic decision support to a weekly rhythm during an intense build or hiring push. We set a cadence up front and adjust it as the company changes.

How is this different from hiring a full-time CTO?

You get the judgment and experience of a senior technical leader for the decisions that matter, without the full-time salary, equity, or the risk of hiring for a role you may not need at full scale yet. When you do need a full-time CTO, I help you hire them.

Do you write code or manage the team day to day?

No — I advise and lead on the decisions, not hands-on delivery. I guide your engineers, sit in on the calls that matter, and give you an outside read, but I don't replace your team's day-to-day execution.

I'm not technical — will I actually be able to work with you?

Yes — most of the founders I work with aren't engineers. My job is to translate the tradeoffs into decisions you can make with confidence, not to test how much you already know. If you can explain your business, you have everything you need to work with me.

Think this is the help you need?

Tell me where your team and technology are today, and we'll work out the right next step together — even if it isn't me.
